Sweden – Alight takes on 2 GW of Soltech solar pipeline

Nordic solar developer and independent power producer Alight  has acquired a portfolio of 40 large-scale solar projects in southern Sweden from Soltech Energy Solutions. The projects total around 2 GW of planned solar capacity, and most sites offer the option of co-located battery storage. The portfolio spans the SE3 and SE4 electricity price areas. The deal closed after approval from Sweden's Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP), and it lifts Alight's solar and storage development pipeline in the Nordics to more than 5 GW.

“This acquisition further cements Alight's position as one of the leading solar players in the Nordics,” says Warren Campbell, CEO of Alight. “With over 5 GW now in our pipeline, we have the scale to keep growing in Sweden for years to come. A portfolio with secured land, permits in progress and room for battery storage lets us reach ready-to-build faster than if we developed new projects from scratch.”

Projects at an early stage

The modest price reflects the projects' early stage of development. According to Soltech, the deal brings a guaranteed purchase price of SEK 14 million: SEK 8 million on signing, with the remainder due in 2027–2028. Soltech may also receive earn-out payments linked to the projects' future progress.

Alight will lead the next phase, steering the projects through permitting and grid connection towards ready-to-build status. They will be developed for long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), under which Alight builds, owns and operates the solar parks and sells the electricity to commercial and industrial customers at a fixed, long-term price.

Soltech refocuses on EPC and O&M

For Soltech Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Soltech Energy Sweden, the sale marks a shift towards a leaner business model focused on EPC contracting and long-term operation and maintenance services. “We have spent several years building this portfolio and taking the projects from early development to today's level of maturity,” says Christoffer Caesar, CEO of Soltech Energy Solutions. “The projects are now entering a phase where a long-term investor is better placed to take them towards investment decision and construction. We look forward to continuing our good collaboration with Alight for many years to come.”

The two companies have worked together before. In 2024, Alight acquired the 11 MW Ramsjöholm solar park in Falkenberg, which Soltech had developed and commissioned. Alight has also been expanding across the region. It recently inaugurated the 215 MW Lidsø Solar Park on Lolland in Denmark, one of the largest solar parks in the Nordics, and in September opened the 101 MW Eurajoki Solar Park in Finland together with car safety supplier Autoliv.
