Norman Foster Solar Award for church renovation in Switzerland

The energy-efficient refurbishment of St Mary's Church in Mollis in the canton of Glarus has won the prestigious Norman Foster Solar Award 2023. The prize was awarded in Geneva in mid-February.

Berlin memorial and documentation centre gets a solar roof

Berliner Stadtwerke has installed a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Topography of Terror Documentation Centre. In future, the centre in Berlin Mitte will be able to cover almost 40 per cent of its electricity needs with solar energy from its own roof.

ADEV builds solar roof system on steel mill

A solar roof system with over 4,500 modules and two megawatts of output is being built on the roof of Stahl Gerlafingen's roller hall. The ADEV energy cooperative and the industrial company have already signed the utilisation contract, and construction will begin at the beginning of next year.

In the western cantons of Switzerland, DHP's solar folding roofs span all motorway service stations. This means that a solar output of 45 megawatts can be built up. The electricity is mainly used for electric mobility.

Since the market launch of Tesla's solar roof in 2016, only around 3,000 solar roofs with a good 30 megawatts of output have been installed. Tesla thus falls well short of its declared goal of 1,000 installations per week. This is the result of an estimate by Wood Mackenzie.

A gymnasium roof in Eppingen shows how a solar system can discreetly disappear into the building envelope. The BIPV system has 66 kilowatts and produces at least 90 per cent of the electricity generated by a conventional solar power system with uncoated glass.
