The ADEV energy cooperative already operates around 100 solar plants. Now a roof-mounted system with two megawatts of output is to be installed on the roof of the roller hall at Stahl Gerlafingen in the canton of Solothurn. From April 2024, it is expected to supply two gigawatt hours of electricity per year. Stahl Gerlafingen uses all of the solar power in its own production. "The advantage of the solution is that the company does not have to make any investments and receives the clean electricity at advantageous conditions," explains project manager Pascal Moser from ADEV.
Lightweight substructure for greater load-bearing capacity
The plant is mounted on a slightly sloping sheet metal roof. The erectors chose a special lightweight substructure to meet the maximum load of the huge roof. Due to the size of the plant, the regional energy supplier will integrate the plant directly into its control system, ADEV reports.

Stahl Gerlafingen produces about 700,000 tonnes of reinforcing and sectional steel annually. The AFV Beltrame Group from Italy owns the Swiss steelworks and has set itself the goal of reducing its climate emissions by 40 per cent by 2030. To achieve this, it needs more green electricity to make steel production more sustainable. (nhp)
