European Energy powers up 108 MW Lancaster park in Victoria, Australia

The newly commissioned solar plant in Victoria comprises around 170,000 PV modules and will supply electricity to Apple under a long-term corporate power purchase agreement. For the Danish developer, the project marks another step in its broader portfolio in Australia, where it is pursuing roughly 10 GW of solar, onshore wind and battery storage projects at various stages of development.

“The Lancaster Solar Farm adds operational capacity to European Energy’s Australian portfolio and reflects the continued progress of the company’s development pipeline,” said Catriona McLeod, Country Manager for Australia at European Energy. Australia offers “strong fundamentals for renewable energy investment, supported by growing corporate demand and a supportive regulatory framework,” she added.

For European renewable players half a world away, Australia has emerged as one of several markets offering favourable conditions for large projects. Abundant solar resources, expanding grids and strong corporate demand for clean electricity are attracting European developers and technology providers – a shift now evident across the supply chain.

Joining this wave is European Energy, which is continuing to expand its Australian footprint. The Winton North solar farm is currently under construction, while the Mulwala solar farm is nearing commercial operation, both located within roughly 90 minutes of the Lancaster site.

“The Lancaster Solar Farm adds further scale to European Energy’s activities in Australia and reflects the company’s strategy of expanding its renewable energy portfolio in markets with strong demand for clean electricity,” said CEO Knud Erik Andersen. (TF)
