Solarwatt offers CO2 compensation for solar modules

This offsets the CO2 emissions generated in the supply chain of Solarwatt's double glass modules. "In addition to the desire for lower electricity prices and more independence, buyers of a solar system are often also concerned with reducing their own CO2 emissions and thus protecting the climate. We now offer our customers solar modules that are immediately CO2 neutral - with no climate payback period," says Solarwatt CEO Detlef Neuhaus.

In an elaborate process, Solarwatt has determined how high the real emissions are during the production of a glass-glass module. Solarwatt customers can purchase the corresponding certificates directly from the company's installation partners when buying the modules.

Gold standard certificates for CO2 compensation

"At our production site in Dresden, we are already very well positioned thanks to the purchase of 100 percent green electricity and with our energy management system. But we want to achieve even more. CO2 compensation for our solar modules is another piece of the puzzle in Solarwatt's efforts to become completely sustainable," confirms Detlef Neuhaus.

The photovoltaic system provider only selects certificates from the non-profit certification organization Gold Standard (goldstandard.org) for its customers, which are subject to the strictest criteria. According to the German Federal Environmental Agency, only projects that "demonstrably lead to the reduction of greenhouse gases and at the same time are good for the local environment and social concerns of the population" are eligible for certification with Gold Standard.

Contribution to achieve  the UN Sustainable Development Goals

"Through this standard, we ensure that the climate protection projects supported by our customers make a lasting contribution achieving the United Nations' 'Sustainable Development Goals,'" explains Annika Beck, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Solarwatt. (hcn)
