From 9 to 11 June 2026, the German Federal Association for Building Greening (Bundesverband Gebäudegrün, BuGG) will host this year's World Congress on roof and façade greening in Berlin. The programme covers the latest findings on biodiversity and other aspects of building greening, alongside the practical application of these solutions.
80 specialist presentations planned
Over the first two days, more than 80 specialist presentations will cover the latest developments in the field and showcase concrete practical examples, spanning new builds, existing buildings and projects involving heritage protection. Speakers will also address financing and pathways to amortisation. In addition, a new guideline for building greening will be presented, alongside current regulations and policy approaches in Germany and across Europe.

Combining green roofs with solar energy
The World Congress looks beyond the individual building to urban development strategies aimed at keeping cities liveable in an era of climate change. Energy-related approaches and rainwater management feature prominently here. Part of this strategy involves pairing green roofs with photovoltaic systems, and examining the benefits this combination delivers for both solar power generation and the green roof itself.

Expert tours of compelling projects
The third day is dedicated to excursions. Expert guides will lead participants through a range of projects in and around Berlin, illustrating the various options for roof, façade and interior greening. The focus is on the different types of greening and how each project was implemented in practice.
