Spain shines as Europe’s solar frontrunner

SolarPower Europe forecasts that Spain will add around 37 gigawatts of new capacity by 2028 in its medium scenario. Like many other markets, Spain faces challenges for large-scale PV power purchase agreements as negative spot prices and zero-price hours become more common.

The growth of co-located hybrid plants and large-scale battery storage is helping to mitigate these challenges, especially when combined with grid upgrades, electricity pricing reforms, and greater integration of solar power for power-to-heat and e-mobility solutions.
