Smarter E – Phoenix Contact makes the case for integrated energy

Phoenix Contact returns to The Smarter E Europe this month with a product range centred on what it calls holistic, cross-sector energy management – DC grids, battery storage, smart grid connections and e-mobility infrastructure all under one booth.

DC grids sit at the heart of the company's pitch. By reducing conversion losses between renewables, storage and loads, they allow energy to be matched more closely to demand. Phoenix Contact will be showing components that enable arc-free switching and disconnection in DC grids under load, which represents a persistent challenge in high-current DC applications.

Battery energy storage systems feature alongside, with the company drawing on its portfolio across connection technology and power electronics to address grid stabilisation and renewable intermittency. Smart grid integration, including solutions tied to Section 14a of Germany's Energy Industry Act, sits alongside the storage and DC grid hardware.

Phoenix Contact is also presenting components for e-mobility charging infrastructure setup and energy management, connectors for megawatt charging, and what it describes as a world first: a CCS charging inlet with an integrated controller.

"The energy system is undergoing profound change," says Stephan Volgmann, CSO designate at Phoenix Contact. "We will succeed in the transformation to an all-electric society all the faster if we think holistically, across sector boundaries, and with consistent, integrated solutions." (TF)

Phoenix Contact is at booth 110, hall B5. The Smarter E Europe runs from 23 to 25 June in Munich.
