The smarter E Europe: cameras rolling on innovation

The smarter E Europe in Munich is sold out across all four shows: Intersolar, EES, Power2Drive and EM-Power, and every hall will be packed with new ideas and solutions. For the first time, the trade fair will run from Tuesday to Thursday, with this year's edition taking place from 23 to 25 June 2026 on the exhibition grounds in the east of the Bavarian capital.

A look back: Our videos from May 2025 in Munich

The solar transition's most important innovation showcase runs for three days, and throughout, we will be right at the heart of the action. New solar modules, mounting systems, inverters, battery storage units and charging technology are being presented in greater numbers than ever before, with installers gaining ever more options to meet their customers' needs. Different market segments are moving at different speeds, but the appetite for innovation remains undimmed, with storage, power electronics, energy management and solar-electric heating leading the way.

C&I sets the agenda

Last year, around 110,000 people came through the halls in northeastern Munich, and the message was clear: the energy transition continues to gain momentum, both across Europe and worldwide. And the share of international visitors at the 2026 trade fair is certain to rise further. This year, commercial self-consumption systems take centre stage, the segment where the full range of sector coupling comes into play. The residential market, soft at the start of the year, has picked up since March on the back of the conflict at the Strait of Hormuz, while solar parks continue to grow strongly.

Hybrid PV and finance models take centre stage at Intersolar Europe

Given these prospering markets, the solar industry, alongside providers of storage technology and charging solutions for e-mobility, is eager to showcase its innovative strength. The smarter E Europe will present the solutions and products set to be deployed in the coming years, both here and on other continents.

Eyes and ears on the show floor

The trade media outlets photovoltaik and PV Europe will support the smarter E Europe in a special way this year: our video teams will fan out across all three days of the fair to document the exhibitors' innovations and broadcast over the internet from the trade fair studio.

Videos for social media

For the first time, we will accompany our PV Guided Tours and CEO Talks with short videos designed specifically for social media users. The format has worked well for us already: bite-sized pieces on social media whet the appetite and lead viewers through to our video channel and on to the companies presenting their innovations.

In this way, we can bring along everyone who cannot make it to Munich, the installers with so much work on rooftops and in open-field arrays that a quick overview via the internet is the more practical option. The videos from our PV Guided Tours @ the smarter E Europe will go online as soon as filming is complete, opening the trade fair halls to a far broader and more international audience than on-site attendance allows.

CEO Talk reads the trends

Alongside this, our CEO Talk format brings interviews with key players in the industry and looks at where the next trends are emerging. The result is a mix of in-person encounters on site and virtual participation, in both German and English. Views on our YouTube channel and across social media build over time: the longer the videos are online, the more often they are watched, helped by the distribution mechanisms of internet search engines. And we do not stop at social media. The videos run continuously on our website, in our newsletters and across the wider range of media through which we bring new ideas for the energy transition to a public audience.

Finding and engaging viewers

Putting a video online does not guarantee it will find its audience – that takes a strategy and a steady hand on the levers of the online media landscape, something we have grown into over the past few years. The growth in user numbers shows that media behaviour is shifting. The PV Guided Tours have proven that complex technical content for an expert audience need not be dry. Planning is now under way for the PV Guided Tours @ the smarter E Europe in June 2026, returning to Munich with you and for you. It promises to be a lively few days. Curtain up! (HS/hcn)
