Scotland – Rolls-Royce enters UK storage market with 43 MW BESS

Rolls-Royce and battery storage developer Voltaria are moving ahead with a 43 MW storage project in Scotland, marking the company’s first large-scale battery installation in the UK. It is intended to support the UK grid and the government’s Clean Power 2030 plan, which targets 27 GW of battery storage capacity by the end of the decade, positioning the country as one of Europe’s most mature and fastest-growing storage markets.

UK – petrol’s lead narrows as EVs close the gap

The Bankside project in Falkirk will combine 43 MW of power with 86 MWh of storage capacity, equivalent to the electricity demand of around 10,000 households or a large industrial site, with grid connection planned for 2026 and full operation expected in 2027.

Rolls-Royce is delivering the project as a turnkey EPC solution, including long-term servicing over 15 years. The company is deploying its mtu EnergyPack system, drawing on experience from more than 200 battery storage installations worldwide.

“This is the first of many battery storage projects that Voltaria plans to deliver and operate,” said Nigel Jefferson, CEO of Voltaria. “Rolls-Royce and the CATL battery solution are market leaders and stand for quality, so we have high expectations for the delivery and operation of this project.”
