Trina Storage and Stiemo team up for multi-gigawatt battery rollout in Baltics

Trina Storage, the energy storage arm of Trina Solar, has partnered with Lithuanian EPC provider Stiemo to deploy battery energy storage systems (BESS) throughout Lithuania and Eastern Europe. Their joint aim is to deliver multiple gigawatt-hours of flexible capacity within the next two to three years.

Initial phase secures 180 MWh across three sites

The first phase of the partnership encompasses three utility-scale BESS projects in Lithuania, located in Anykščiai, Skuodas and Jonava. Each will deliver 30 MW / 60 MWh, totalling 90 MW / 180 MWh. Equipment deliveries start December 2025, with commercial operation planned for mid-2026.

All projects will use Trina Storage’s Elementa 2 system, combining battery modules, power conversion systems and MV Skids. This solution enables rapid deployment and long-duration flexibility, supporting grid balancing and renewable integration by reducing curtailment and boosting energy security.

Local partnerships key for Eastern European expansion

Trina Storage and Stiemo are currently evaluating additional locations across Eastern Europe to expand their joint project portfolio to several gigawatt-hours over the next three to five years. The partners plan to implement both co-located and standalone storage systems, aligned with evolving regulatory frameworks. The Baltic States are adapting their grids to growing renewable shares, which is driving demand for EPC expertise, particularly in Lithuania.

Trina Storage’s emphasis on local partnerships, such as with Stiemo, is essential to effectively scale storage deployment in response to evolving market conditions. The MACSE tender in Italy, for example, has gained recognition across Europe as a leading framework for incentivising battery storage investments. (mg)
