Energy transmission:

Trina proves itself in long-distance energy transmission project

TrinaTracker, tracker manufacturer and business unit of Trina Solar, has effectively demonstrated for an entire year the efficient operation of its 600-megawatt photovoltaic plant, as part of the ±800 kilovolt UHV DC Power Transmission Project located in Qinghai-Henan, China. Furthermore, Trina Solar has been the only supplier of the whole installation that provided both modules and trackers.

Owned and operated by state-owned SPIC (State Power Investment Corporation), the first phase of the two-gigawatt project was connected to the grid last September. TrinaTracker achieved maximum energy yield with limited operation and maintenance services, even though trackers are installed in a site characterized by its extremely harsh environment.

Challenging weather and terrain conditions

With an average altitude above 3,000 meters, Qinghai Province has unique climatic characteristics, such as low temperatures at night, long hours of strong solar radiation and scarce and short periods of rainfall. Moreover, this area is also prone to meteorological disasters, including droughts, hailstorms, frosts, snowstorms and heavy winds.

These challenging weather and terrain conditions have posed unprecedented challenges to photovoltaic modules and trackers. However, TrinaTracker has successfully defied all the odds by installing Vanguard trackers designed to be adapted to the most arduous sites.

Compatible with ultra-high power solar modules

After a whole year of operation, TrinaTracker Vanguard series has proven its stability, stiffness, adaptability and efficiency when installed in the harsh natural environment of the western Chinese region. Moreover, the trackers have demonstrated their complete compatibility with ultra-high power modules and their high energy production, driven by TrinaTracker's Supertrack intelligent algorithm that dynamically optimizes the tracking angle resulting in a maximun 8 per cent increase of the total energy yield.

Featuring wind resistance, snow pressure resistance and other characteristics, TrinaTracker Vanguard is suitable for a wide range of the most complex scenarios. The trackers adapt to harsh climate conditions including low temperatures, strong wind, heavy snow loads, hailstorms and elevated levels of humidity and corrosion.

Reduce system costs and LCOE

As a result, Vanguard series trackers are designed to operate efficiently in all kinds of sites from deserts to plains, hills, or plateaus and in a variety of applications, including agrivoltaics and fishery photovoltaics.
