PV installers expect the installation of charging stations to become increasingly important

As part of its annual installer survey, EUPD Research asked 350 installers of charging stations in Germany about the current market. More than 80 percent of the installers surveyed offer photovoltaic systems in addition to charging stations for electric cars, and around 10 percent even identify primarily as solar installers.

Despite an increased number of new photovoltaic installations in 2020, half of the German installers state a negative impact on their photovoltaic business due to the coronavirus pandemic. For 2021, EUPD Research forecasts an additional increase of new PV installations by 23% to 6 GW.

The share of installers, who either expect significantly negative or negative effects on their business due to the corona virus, slightly increases from 55% to 58%.

Solar energy cuts driving cost with electric cars by 70 per cent

If the driver of an electric vehicle charges self-produced solar power instead of household electricity, he can save a lot of money. This in turn reduces barriers to purchase.

The graph above illustrates how relevant an increase of the photovoltaic capacity is for the ecological transition of transport and heat in residential households by means of high rates of self-consumption of the produced solar electricity.

Record rise expected for small-sized PV installations in 2020

According to the most recent EUPD Research prognosis, a record amount of 800 megawatts of small-sized PV systems up to 10 kilowatts is expected for the year 2020, following an installed capacity of 427 megawatts in the first half of 2020.
