Mechanical tests carried out by SUPSI in Switzerland showed that standard rooftop modules fail through glass breakage at loads above 5,400 pascals. To take account of these loads, the Solitek modules used in the installation are built on a bifacial glass-glass construction with n-type TOPCon cells, combining thicker glass, reinforced frames and optimised frame geometries. They are also rated for installation altitudes up to 3,000 metres, operating temperatures from -40 to +85 degrees Celsius and hail class 4 with 40 mm hailstones, and are resistant to ammonia and salt mist.
The lamination film in the module has been optimised for higher UV resistance, and the module matrix layout reduces shading from the frame and junction box. The distance between conductive components and the glass edge has been increased to prevent partial discharges. Cell connectors with a larger cross-section and a higher-rated bypass diode handle the greater currents produced by the strong alpine solar irradiation. (nhp)
