First launched by SolarPower Europe in 2021, the Solar Diversity Champion Awards have evolved into a key moment of recognition for organisations advancing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in Europe’s solar sector.
This year’s edition comes at a pivotal time. Solar is already leading among renewables, with women accounting for 40% of the workforce, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Yet significant gaps remain, particularly in increasing the presence of underrepresented groups in STEM fields and leadership roles.
The Solar Diversity Champion Awards 2025 will honour organisations that demonstrate a clear commitment to inclusive, equitable and diverse work environments. By recognising such leadership, SolarPower Europe aims to encourage more companies to prioritise DEI, reinforcing both the social and innovative fabric of the solar sector.

Competition format
Applications from solar companies will be reviewed by a jury of experts. The three finalists will present their DEI strategies and initiatives at the Solar Diversity Champion Webinar on 1 October 2025. The audience will vote during the event, and the gold, silver and bronze winners of the Solar Diversity Champion 2025 Awards will be announced live.
Who can participate?
The competition is open to all solar companies wishing to share their achievements in diversity, equity and inclusion.
2024 Winner
In 2024, Sonnedix received the Gold Solar Diversity Champion Award for its commitment to advancing gender equality and inclusion across its global operations. Its flagship internship programme, supporting underrepresented talent – particularly women and people from diverse ethnic backgrounds – into the solar sector, was central to this success.
Over five years, Sonnedix has offered more than 50 paid internships, 40% of which led to permanent roles, with women accounting for 56% of participants. The initiative forms part of a wider DEI strategy that also includes localised programmes, an internal inclusion scorecard and a global DEI summit. (hcn)
