The jointly developed battery storage ecosystem is modular and built on open-source principles. Tibber and its partners aim to give smaller installation companies access to smart services, allowing these installers to offer Tibber’s services to their customers at no additional cost.
The smart battery feature automatically manages charging and discharging: charging occurs in fifteen-minute intervals when wholesale electricity prices are low or when there is surplus solar power. Discharging is used for self-consumption when prices are high or solar generation is low, with priority given to charging from the home’s own solar surplus.
The system also integrates electric vehicle charging through the Tibber app. To use the feature, households need a battery with an inverter from Kostal or Solax, the Tibber Bridge energy management system, a smart meter and Tibber’s dynamic electricity tariff. (nhp)
