Soltech gets green light for 100 MW hybrid solar projects in Sweden

In recent years, Soltech’s subsidiary Soltech Energy Solutions has built an offering in large-scale ground-mounted solar parks with integrated batteries. Today, the company’s total project portfolio amounts to more than 2,000 MW, and the County Administrative Board has now approved over 100 MW of new solar park projects.

Earlier this year, the milestone of 600 MW of solar park projects obtaining legal force was reached. Soltech plans to divest the rights to these projects and may also undertake construction on behalf of investors. Another milestone has since been achieved as the total number of permitted solar projects increased during the quarter. More than 700 MWp of solar park capacity, combined with 170 MW of large-scale batteries, has now been legally approved by the County Administrative Board.

The solar park process

The development and construction of a solar park in Sweden follows several stages. First, the site’s solar radiation, proximity to electricity infrastructure, and natural or cultural interests are evaluated, along with lease agreements with landowners. This is followed by detailed investigations of site suitability, culminating in a 12:6 consultation notification to the County Administrative Board. The Board then determines whether the project may proceed. Once approval is granted, the design phase begins, followed by construction.

Batteries installed in connection with solar parks, like the parks themselves, require approval from the County Administrative Board through a 12:6 notification. They also need a building permit and further assessments before being installed alongside solar parks. (hcn)
