The Swedish government has introduced the Kraftlyftet proposal, aimed at increasing power availability in the electricity system – including through batteries connected to PV systems. Its objective is to enable more electricity users to connect in regions facing grid capacity constraints.
New report: “EU energy storage action plan needed”
Battery storage paired with solar power is also eligible for support. In 2026, SEK 200 million (€17.95 million) will be available, rising to SEK 400 million (€35.9 million) annually from 2027. The Swedish Energy Agency will administer the scheme, prioritising projects that strengthen regional capacity where demand is highest and that enhance system resilience, for example through support services.
Sweden – batteries pave the way for more renewable electricity
The Swedish Solar Energy Association (Svensk Solenergi) has raised concerns that grid operators often underestimate the role of batteries in ensuring availability during peak load hours, and in enabling additional grid connections. The association also argues that funding should target projects that can be deployed quickly, accelerating electrification and expanding access for more electricity users.
