Scotland–England interconnector to boost renewable energy transmission

NKT has been selected as the preferred bidder for the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnector Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL3) by a joint venture between SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission.

Legacy infrastructure “biggest challenge to net zero”

The 525 kV HVDC cable system will span approximately 680 km, both onshore and offshore, creating a reliable power connection between Scotland and England. EGL3 forms part of the UK’s extensive investment programme to strengthen the transmission grid and support renewable energy integration.

Major battery storage to ease power bottleneck between Scotland and England

Claes Westerlind, President and CEO of NKT: “Being selected as the preferred bidder for EGL3 marks a significant milestone in our collaboration with SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission. It highlights our dedication to advancing the UK’s energy transition through our HVDC expertise.” (hcn)
