The sale includes all shares in the project company “RES-Project 5”, which holds the rights to construct and operate a photovoltaic park with a capacity of around 40 MW near ORLEN’s production facility in Płock, central Poland. The project will connect directly to ORLEN’s refinery infrastructure, enabling on-site renewable power generation for energy-intensive operations. The transaction reflects a broader trend in the Polish market towards customised, subsidy-free energy solutions for large industrial clients. Such projects finance themselves entirely through energy cost savings.
Steffen Emmerich of GOLDBECK SOLAR Polska: "You have to be perceived as a Polish company"
Subsidy-free industrial energy solution
The PNE Group focuses on customised projects that operate without subsidies or dependence on the public power grid. This approach increases independence from local grid constraints, which in some regions can limit the construction of large-scale solar parks. The PNE project benefits from its strategic location and direct connection to ORLEN’s internal power grid in Płock, helping to reduce regulatory hurdles and simplify administrative processes throughout development and construction.
The project is being developed by PNE as a “Ready-to-Build-Plus” solution and will be delivered to ORLEN with all building permits in place, a completed technical design, and bids from general contractors. With this preparatory work, ORLEN can proceed directly to implementation. The company plans to select a contractor in 2026, with commissioning of the solar park scheduled for 2028. (mg)
