Falagotti presents solar fences and façades as rooftop alternatives

The introduction of variable grid tariffs is fundamentally changing the profitability of solar systems. Vertical installations on fences or façades can make effective use of these time-dependent tariffs. Unlike rooftop systems that produce peak output at midday, vertical systems mainly generate electricity in the morning, evening and during winter.

Bifacial modules can also capture ground reflections and diffuse light by absorbing on both sides. In winter, with added reflection from snow, modern systems can achieve up to 60 percent of summer output.

According to Falagotti, a solar fence with a ten-kilowatt output can cover up to 65 percent of a household’s electricity needs through optimised production times. The payback period is less than eight years. (nhp)
