Activating agricultural areas for solar electricity production

-

The use of agricultural land for additional electricity generation with photovoltaics is attracting growing interest. Our special edition shows how farmers can enhance land use with solar energy. It is available to download for free.

Some plants benefit from the shade provided by solar modules. When it gets dry, almost all crops benefit.

Agriphotovoltaics increases agricultural yields in dry conditions

-

A study by the University of Hohenheim has shown that agriculture benefits from shading the soil with solar systems, especially in dry regions. This is because less water evaporates, which the plants need.

Gridparity can build the solar plants above the vines as fixed elevations or as trackers.

Gridparity adds solutions for viticulture to its product range

-

Gridparity has developed a solar system specifically for viticulture. The company is thus expanding its product range for the energy transition in agriculture.

In the Agri Food-Energy Park of the Institute of Plant Sciences, scientists at Forschungszentrum Jülich are testing new concepts for agri-PV - in future also with printed solar cells.

Flexible and multiple uses of existing space

-

Researchers not only want to further develop printable solar cells technologically. Rather, they want to provide solutions with them in order to implement different application variants.

Whether elevated above arable land or as a protective roof for berries and pome fruits: agriphotovoltaics promises a lot of added value for farmers.

Agriphotovoltaics pays off for farmers - in more ways than one

-

In a study, researchers from the IÖW and the HSK in Kehl examined agriphotovoltaics economically, ecologically and legally. There are still hurdles. But above all, the technology offers plenty of opportunities for farmers.

This is what the agriphotovoltaic plant near Berlin, which Elysium Solar is building with financing from Commerzbank, will look like.

Commerzbank finances huge agriphotovoltaic plant near Berlin

-

The Agriphotovoltaic plant will produce electricity for about 19,000 households, while agricultural use of the land remains possible. It is Commerzbank's entry into the segment.

The permanently elevated plant stands on extended mounting posts so that agricultural machinery can also fit underneath.

Sunfarming builds new agri-PV systems in the Rhineland

-

The project developer from Erkner near Berlin has built two new agriphotovoltaic plants near Jülich. They not only supply electricity, but also data for various research objectives.

Agri-PV allows the combination of farming with the generation of clean electricity.

New special issues on PV for farmers published together with DLG

-

Together with the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and our German sister publication photovoltaik, we are publishing two special issues on agriculture and photovoltaics. See here for more details:

Agriphotovoltaics has long since moved beyond the experimental stage, as was the case for this installation in Heggelbach near Lake Constance. The speakers at the conference will present their latest findings around the solutions developed.

Conexio organises conference on agriphotovoltaics

-

From 15 to 17 June 2022, Conexio is organising a conference around the topic of agriphotovoltaics. Currently, potential speakers can submit their proposals for a presentation.

This year, Energy Decentral - just like Euro Tier - has to move to the internet. Nevertheless, the possibilities for product presentation are extensive.
Energy Decentral/Euro Tier:

Great interest in digital trade fair

-

Despite the transfer of Energy Decentral and Euro Tier to the internet, the organisers look back on a successful fair. The virtual exhibition stands will remain online until 15 April.

Heiko Hildebrandt from Next2Sun: Agriculture, nature conservation and solar systems in harmony

-

We at Next2Sun GmbH have been proving the practicality of our Agro-PV system for quite some time. Recently, our second Agri-PV solar park in Donaueschingen officially went into operation.

The award honours innovations in the area of self-sufficiency in the supply of electricity generated by farms.

Energy Decentral awards prizes for innovative solutions in agricultural operations

-

Energy Decentral awards prizes to outstanding innovations for the self-supply of farms with self-generated green electricity. The application period runs until September 30, 2020.
