Hithium Energy Storage Technology is considering a near-term investment in Navarra to develop energy storage systems. Founder and president Jeff Wu announced the plans during a meeting with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
Months-long talks
The meeting was also attended by Industry Minister Jordi Hereu and Navarra regional president María Chivite. Talks between the Spanish government, Navarra and the company have been underway for months. Sánchez welcomed the plans in the context of Spain–China trade ties, citing his April visit to China.
Spain aiming for 22 gigawatts of storage capacity by 2030
Hithium specialises in batteries and stationary energy storage systems (BESS). The planned investment aligns with Spain’s strategy to expand the storage value chain and position the country as a European clean energy hub. The current National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) targets around 22 gigawatts of storage capacity by 2030 to support higher renewable shares on the grid.
