Commercial storage applications offer new options for energy trade and reduce energy costs

Energy costs matter. They shape competitiveness, whether a company is trading internationally or serving the local market. And with fossil and nuclear prices heading in only one direction, renewable energy from sun and wind is looking less like an alternative and more like the smart money.

Solar PV is especially appealing because it is cost-effective to plan and install and can be adapted to almost any space a business has available, from rooftops and façades to underused land. Paired with a capable commercial storage system, it can significantly reduce energy bills.

Payback periods typically range from three to eight years, depending on how many revenue streams a storage system can access. A single unit can support several simultaneously, and this multi-use approach is where much of the value is created.

Multi-use applications

Most C&I storage systems today do more than one job. They maximise the use of rooftop solar, shave peak loads, capture low-cost grid power when it is available, smooth frequency fluctuations and keep the lights on when the grid falters. In short, they earn their keep.

Control is digital, with AI handling the complexity behind the scenes. Better still, these systems can grow and adapt alongside the business in terms of capacity, output and functionality, helping to future-proof the investment.

The upshot: the energy transition moves forward in commerce and industry while costs come down. Europe strengthens its hand in global competition, shoring up regional value creation and hundreds of thousands of jobs.
