By partnering with Twaice, Second Foundation brings a specialist in BESS analytics and battery simulation on board. The agreement highlights how operators of growing fleets increasingly rely on specialised data analytics to proactively manage storage risks and optimise performance.
Second Foundation currently manages 2 GW of storage and is developing new GW-scale projects in Europe, the US, Japan and other markets. The agreement with Twaice supports this global growth strategy by standardising battery storage monitoring across its expanding portfolio.
Why trading – not ancillaries – is crucial for BESS profitability
Following a successful initial project in Germany, Second Foundation is now rolling out the Twaice solution across its entire European portfolio. The platform strengthens existing monitoring and trading systems, providing additional predictive insights into availability, performance and maintenance that EMS and SCADA alone cannot offer.
Another key element is Twaice’s Digital Commissioning Reports, which enable Second Foundation to establish a leading position in data-driven storage operations. The operator uses these reports as a “health check” before commissioning each storage system. The team can spot issues early and take timely action, ensuring each new BESS is integrated smoothly.
Battery storage – co‑located and multi-use projects gaining ground
The partnership with Second Foundation covers both core offerings from Twaice: BESS analytics and battery modelling, including battery behaviour simulation. This allows Second Foundation to incorporate degradation forecasts and other simulation results into its trading and planning processes, optimising its BESS portfolio economically. (hcn)
