Wacken Open Air uses electricity from green hydrogen

At the Wacken Open Air in Schleswig-Holstein, two so-called H₂Gensets were used to generate energy. This mobile power generation with hydrogen fuel cells is suitable for areas without access to the conventional power grid. They come from the company SFC Energy, which manufactures hydrogen and methanol fuel cells for stationary and mobile hybrid power supply solutions.

GP Joule obtained the green hydrogen from what is called the eFarm. The project already supplies cars and local buses in North Friesland with green hydrogen. This fuel will be converted into electricity in fuel cells from SFC Energy at the Wacken Open Air. The electricity generated from renewable energy was used from the opening on Monday, 31 July, until the end of the festival. In addition, the Wacken Open Air used an eFarm hydrogen bus as a shuttle for the guests. The staff also used electric cars and e-bikes around the site, which were provided by GP Joule. (nhp/mfo)
