Owners of AlphaESS home batteries can now manage their xxx through Homey, the smart home platform developed by Dutch company Athom, which became part of LG Electronics in 2024. The app’s energy overview updates in real time and covers grid import, export and household consumption. Its main selling point is that it also pulls in devices from other brands in the same home.

The battery can be controlled by hand or left to run automatically. Homey Flow, the platform’s automation tool, can also set its power or schedule commands for a later time. The app is available now in the Homey App Store, supports Homey Cloud, Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini and Homey Self-Hosted Server, and works with all AlphaESS home batteries.
Every 15 minutes
For more automation, AlphaESS has AlphaQ, an AI tool it brought to Belgium and the Netherlands in September. In AI mode, it predicts prices, solar output and household demand, and adjusts the charging plan every 15 minutes.
Net metering in the Netherlands ends on 1 January 2027. From then on, surplus solar power can no longer be offset against what a household draws from the grid, so Dutch owners will get more from storing it and using it at home.

“A home battery makes better decisions when it knows what else is happening in the house,” said Stefan Witkamp, chief executive of Athom. Jef Noelmans of AlphaESS said the company had seen growing demand from customers wanting to connect their systems to Homey.
Founded in 2012, AlphaESS says it has more than 300,000 systems in operation in over 130 countries. Athom puts Homey’s reach at a growing list of more than 70,000 devices from over 2,000 brands. (TF)
