Poland – Fluence digs in on third major battery en route to 8 GW

Few European storage markets are moving as fast as Poland, where S&P Global expects installed battery capacity to exceed 8 GW by 2030. At the top end of that pipeline is Gryfino, expected to be one of the largest battery systems in Central and Eastern Europe and backed by a 17-year capacity market contract for PGE.

A boom decade ahead for PV investment

SPEC BAU Polska and El Professional are building the plant on a turnkey basis, while Fluence is supplying 94 of its 10 MWh Smartstack units, giving around 940 MWh of nameplate energy against an 800 MWh usable rating, in a two-hour grid-forming configuration.

Biggest of three Polish projects

Gryfino is Fluence’s third large-scale project in Poland, following Trzebinia and Osiek, and the largest of the three. The company’s signed contracts in Poland now total around 1.5 GWh of Smartstack systems. “By working in partnership with SPEC BAU and El Professional, we are combining our technology with experienced Polish delivery teams,” said Aric Zurek, Chief of Sales, Future Markets at Fluence.

Global Li-ion BESS market set to reach $135 billion by 2037

SPEC BAU Polska presents the project as proof that domestic contractors can deliver at this scale. “Gryfino shows what is possible when Polish engineering and construction expertise comes together with globally proven storage technology,” said company CEO Dawid Kliś. (TF)
