Ireland – ESB selects Greencells for 64 MW Drombeg expansion

With the signing of the Phase 2 contract, Drombeg will rank among Ireland's largest solar parks – a significant step in the country’s energy transition. Located just inland from the Atlantic coast, in an area known for productive farmland and strong winds, the site reflects the region’s natural resources and renewable energy potential.

Expanding capacity and deepening partnerships

ESB, one of Ireland’s major state-owned energy companies, continues to expand its renewable portfolio in line with national decarbonisation targets. Greencells, headquartered in Saarbrücken, Germany, specialises in utility-scale solar, with over 3.3 GW installed worldwide.

“We are proud to have been selected once again by ESB as turnkey EPC partner, enabling us to contribute to Ireland’s ambitious renewable energy targets,” said Fabian Herr, CEO of Greencells Group. “The Drombeg project demonstrates the strength of our partnership and our ability to deliver complex, multi-phase projects efficiently and to the highest standards.”

A growing role for solar

Ireland’s solar market is growing rapidly, fuelled by clear government policy and strong investor interest. As the sector matures, long-term partnerships between utilities and experienced EPCs are helping to position Ireland as a low-carbon leader, with solar playing an increasingly important role in the national energy mix.
