NL – BayWa r.e. hands floating solar rights to local stakeholders

Once completed, the plant will be the largest floating PV park in the Netherlands and the largest project of its kind to date for BayWa r.e. Covering an area of 35 hectares and with a capacity of 46 MW, Skûlenboarch will generate enough renewable electricity to supply more than 15,500 households.

The floating PV plant will now be realised by the local cooperative, with support from the Friesland Clean Energy Fund and the municipality. In addition to enabling the generation of green energy, the project also promotes local participation. Additional amenities, such as a mountain bike trail, are planned around the water area. An angling pier has already been installed.

“This partnership is an example of how we collaborate with a broad range of investors to deliver impactful renewable energy projects. Supporting cooperatives in taking responsibility and ownership for such projects is a key contribution to a resilient and inclusive energy system,” said Daniel Gäfke, COO of BayWa r.e. (hcn)
