Dutch-Norwegian company SolarDuck has deployed its 0.5 MW offshore floating solar project, Merganser, in the North Sea with support from RWE. The pilot aims to demonstrate the scalability of offshore photovoltaics.

The “PV2Float” project by RWE, Fraunhofer ISE and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is testing three floating PV systems (30 kW each) over three years. The research focuses on technical improvements, environmental impact and public acceptance. It is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Construction begins on Europe's largest floating solar farm

The floating solar park will be built on the on the site of former gravel pits in the Haute-Marne region of France. It has a capacity of 74.3 MW.

SeaVolt: test platform for offshore PV

SeaVolt, a consortium of Tractebel, DEME and Jan De Nul, is preparing its first floating solar energy test platform to be erected off the Belgian coast.

EPNE and LEAG have started building a solar park on the former open-cast mine site. It will later float on Cottbus East Lake.

The plant is to achieve an output of 29 megawatts and blend into the overall appearance of the lake, which does not even exist yet. Project developer EPNE is using a special new technology for the construction.

BayWa r.e. will implement one of the currently largest floating PV plants in Germany for the family-owned company Quarzwerke GmbH at the Haltern am See site in the coming weeks- without subsidies.

This floating plant has 4.8 megawatts and is located at Gan HaShomron in Israel.

Belectric will build another floating solar plant in Israel by the end of 2022. The project developer will also take over the operation and maintenance of the plant that will have an output of almost 17 megawatts.

Belectric  has completed and commissioned a solar project in Israel on behalf of its customer EDF. With an installed capacity of 60 MW the PV plant produces more than 145 gigawatt hours of green electricity per year.
