Trinasolar and France-based solar manufacturer HoloSolis have signed a patent licensing agreement granting HoloSolis the right to use Trinasolar’s TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cell technology.
“Access to Trinasolar's TOPCon IP portfolio will allow HoloSolis to produce at large scale, low carbon, high efficiency PV panels in Europe,” said Oliver Schultz-Wittmann, CTO of HoloSolis.
Call for fresh funding to back EU solar manufacturing
The future HoloSolis factory in Hambach, Moselle, is designed to produce 10 million solar panels per year, with a capacity of 5 GW annually, enough to power one million homes. The project is expected to create more than 2,000 direct jobs and deliver long-term industrial benefits to the Grand Est region.
“We are proud and committed to supporting the next generation of European PV manufacturing and to support local production and supply chain initiatives,” said Gonzalo de la Viña, President Europe at Trinasolar.
€200 million in financing secured for the Hambach factory
“In just over a year, we have secured over €200 million in financing and achieved critical milestones, from permits and land acquisition to grid access and industrial design. We also received strong support from the market by receiving more than 20 GW of Letters of Intent for buying our production, enough to secure our first 5 years of production,” said Bertrand Lecacheux, CEO of HoloSolis.

The factory is expected to have a significant regional impact, with the potential to transform the economic fabric of the Grand Est over the long term by supporting local employment and establishing a resilient clean energy value chain. While the announcement centres on the patent licensing agreement, the two companies are also in active discussions on future areas of collaboration, including potential strategic initiatives to further reinforce Europe’s solar value chain.
