European validation strengthens the case for LONGi’s BC technology

For utility-scale solar projects in the DACH region, module choice affects more than peak power: it shapes energy yield, land use and the investment case over the project’s lifetime. European research, testing and field assessments of LONGi’s Back Contact (BC) technology provide locally relevant evidence that developers and investors can consider in due diligence, alongside their own site-specific analysis.

Six European research, testing and certification organisations have assessed LONGi’s BC technology: Fraunhofer ISE, TÜV Rheinland, Enertis Applus+, CENER, ENEA and IPVF. Their work spans module characterisation, reliability and safety testing, certification, field performance and energy-yield assessment. For project developers and investors, this breadth of independent European assessment can provide a stronger evidence base for evaluating technical assumptions, project risks and long-term economics.

Field comparisons offer further evidence for Hi-MO 9. At a 47 MW tracker project in Seville, Enertis Applus+ reported 2.4%–3.4% higher watt-for-watt yield than the TOPCon modules evaluated at that site. In assessments of two 50 MW ground-mounted projects in France and Denmark, IPVF found Hi-MO 9 generated an average 1.84% more energy per watt than the TOPCon modules assessed. Both analyses calculated lower LCOE in their respective comparisons. These are site-specific findings, not guarantees of results elsewhere; actual performance depends on project design and conditions.

The latest addition to LONGi’s utility-scale portfolio, Hi-MO 9 Prime, is built on HPBC 2.0 cell architecture and offers mass-production power of up to 680 W and efficiency of up to 25.2%. Its back-contact structure leaves the front of the cell unobstructed to capture more light. In LONGi’s high-ground-coverage modelling, Hi-MO 9 Prime increased installed capacity by 4.62% on the same land area versus mainstream non-BC modules. A representative 10-hectare scenario indicated 648.4 MWh more annual energy yield. These are modelled results; actual outcomes depend on site conditions and project design.

Taken together, European assessments across LONGi’s BC portfolio and field comparisons for Hi-MO 9 give DACH developers and investors evidence to weigh when assessing yield, land use and long-term economics. They complement (not replace) project-specific analysis.
