Barcelona – Siresa marks 25 years with rooftop solar drive

Siresa is helping to advance the installation of photovoltaic modules on Barcelona's rooftops. The "Moment Solar Barcelona" initiative aims to expand solar self-consumption and support the city's decarbonisation, one of several services Siresa delivers on behalf of Barcelona City Council.

Negative pricing surges as EU solar outpaces grids

Founded in 2001, Siresa is part of the Tersa Group, a public enterprise majority-owned by the City of Barcelona and the metropolitan authority Área Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB), specialising in the circular economy, municipal waste recovery and renewable energy. Siresa operates 44 recycling centres (Punts Verds) and nine metropolitan facilities (Punts Limpios), handling more than 100,000 tonnes of waste in 2025. Alongside the solar programme, its work for the city spans environmental consultancy, business inspection services, awareness campaigns and the "Barcelona + Sostenible" sustainability network.

Daniel Menéndez, Director of Siresa: “At Siresa, we are committed to ensuring that every action we take, from managing municipal waste to promoting sustainability, has a direct impact on citizens and helps build a more environmentally aware society.” (nhp)
