Spain – Galileo nets 700 MW grid access for clean power

Galileo Green Energy has reached a milestone in project development in Spain. The company now holds grid-secured projects with a combined capacity of 700 megawatts, spread across the country and intended to advance the expansion of renewable energy and strengthen Spain's energy security.

Spain – incentives boost for PV storage and self-consumption

The active development pipeline of the Zurich-headquartered company totals 1.4 gigawatts, comprising battery energy storage systems (BESS), hybrid solar installations and onshore wind projects. With this mix, Galileo aims to enhance grid flexibility and support the integration of renewable energy. A further 1.4 gigawatts of pipeline projects relate to capacity tenders expected in Spain over the coming years.

Focus on battery storage in Catalonia and Madrid

The majority of the grid-secured projects consist of standalone battery storage systems, concentrated in regions of high electricity consumption in Catalonia and Madrid. Onshore wind and solar installations round out the portfolio. According to Ingmar Wilhelm, co-founder and CEO of Galileo, the company aims to secure permits for a large share of these 700 megawatts. By the end of 2026, Wilhelm says, Galileo is targeting several final investment decisions for the portfolio.

A broadly based project pipeline

"Reaching 700 megawatts of grid-secured projects is a significant achievement for our team and reflects the substantial progress we have made in Spain," says Eduardo González Solá, Director of Business Development & Power Origination for Spain at Galileo. The pipeline, the company adds, is both well advanced and technologically diverse. (nhp)
