Back-contact solar – refined tech with untapped potential

Back-contact modules are in the spotlight in our Daily Focus. We look at how manufacturers and researchers are pushing the technology forward.

For example, module manufacturer Aiko has launched the Navigator, a new module based on the N-type ABC series. Real-time monitoring can increase performance by three to five percentage points.

Longi has achieved an efficiency of 27.81% for its N-type silicon heterojunction interdigitated back-contact solar cell.

Researchers at Fraunhofer ISE have developed a contactless method for measuring the performance of back-contact solar cells. This improves measurement accuracy and prevents potential damage.

As silicon wafer technology approaches its limits, industry experts are turning their attention to stacked cells and new materials.
