Senec adds forecast-based charging to home storage

The feature is now available for the Senec Home P4 storage system. Rollout for the E4 model is planned over the coming months. The system uses forecast data on solar generation, household electricity consumption and current electricity prices to automatically charge or discharge the battery when it is most advantageous for the operator. Forecast-based charging is enabled by the integrated energy management system, Senec Powerpilot, which manages electricity generation and consumption within the home.

The new feature offers two charging modes. Solar-optimised charging ensures the battery is charged as gently as possible with self-generated solar power and used directly, especially during the summer months. This also helps avoid curtailment of the PV system in the event of grid overloads. In addition to lowering electricity costs, forecast-based charging can also extend the battery’s service life.
