A market in motion

While many rooftops are already in use, parking lots are increasingly coming into focus. In the commercial and industrial sector, they offer significant PV potential. Parking lots with 35 to 99 spaces represent around 25% of Germany’s total surface potential, while those with 100 to 199 spaces account for another 23%.

PV carports with capacities of 20 to 40 MW show that parking lots are becoming productive energy assets.

Built on experience

PMT has been developing PV carport solutions for around 15 years. The current PMT CARPORT system has been in use for more than a decade and has been continuously improved.

A key advantage lies in its structural design. While many systems only allow two vehicles between two support columns, PMT CARPORT can in some cases cover up to five parking spaces between columns. This reduces support material requirements and installation time, helping to lower project costs.

With a standard roof depth of around 13 metres – and in some projects up to 16.8 metres – parking spaces and parts of the driving lanes can be covered. This creates more module without changing site use.

Fast foundations, stable construction

Instead of concrete foundations, PMT CARPORT uses driven piles. This reduces excavation work, protects existing parking surfaces and keeps disruption during construction low.

A concrete base on top of the driven piles ensures load distribution and integrated impact protection. The result is a stable structure that can be installed efficiently with minimal intervention.

Functionality meets design

PMT CARPORT combines technical performance with a representative appearance. Visible wooden beams are used as structural and design elements and can be adapted to higher snow or wind loads. The concrete base can also be customised with branding.

More than just a structure

Carport projects are complex construction projects. Drainage, ground conditions, local regulations, permits and structural requirements all need to be considered. PMT supports projects from planning to implementation with experience and a network of specialised partners.
