SolarEdge marks 20 years with a clear software-first signal

SolarEdge is marking 20 years at Intersolar Europe this month with a broad product showcase centred on its next-generation Nexis platform, expanded commercial storage and a new AI-driven energy management tool for residential customers.

Christian Carraro of SolarEdge: “Integrated smart energy solutions are key”

The headline exhibit is the three-phase Nexis inverter and battery system, an Intersolar Award finalist that has drawn record orders since its German launch in March. Alongside it, SolarEdge will give European audiences their first look at the single-phase Nexis ahead of a planned regional roll-out later this year. Both systems are designed around modular installation and scalability, with smart energy and backup capabilities built in rather than bolted on.

Also previewed at the show is an AI energy companion integrated into the mySolarEdge app. The tool draws on homeowner tariff data, solar forecasts, battery state and EV usage patterns to optimise consumption and exports continuously in the background, without requiring active management from the user.

Emphasis on software

SolarEdge ONE, the company's commercial energy optimisation platform, ties together generation, storage and consumption data across a site, while the mySolarEdge app serves the same function at residential level. The direction is towards platforms that do more of the work themselves, reducing dependence on third-party tools and shifting SolarEdge's hardware into the role of delivery mechanism for what is increasingly a software business.

On the commercial side, SolarEdge will highlight its CSS-OD 197 kWh battery system, already in early deployment across medium- and large-scale installations, alongside a new backup-ready iteration. The SolarEdge ONE software platform for commercial energy optimisation will also feature prominently.

A quieter but practically significant announcement is the MultiRange Concept, which consolidates multiple inverter power classes into a reduced number of SKUs, down to a single part number for selected residential models, with output configured at commissioning. The reduction in SKUs is a practical gain for installers managing procurement and stock across projects of different sizes.

"Innovation in integration and software is unlocking new possibilities for both residential and commercial customers," said Pascal de Boer, General Manager Europe. "We're empowering customers to take full control of their energy usage in ways that were unimaginable even a few years ago." (TF)
