Poland – R.Power, Axpo agree 150 MW BESS optimisation

The Jedwabno project is a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a rated power of 150 MW and an energy capacity of 300 MWh, currently under development in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. Once completed, the facility is expected by the companies to rank among the largest of its kind in Poland.

Clear division of tasks

Under the terms of the agreement, Axpo will optimise the operation of the BESS. Revenue from the Jedwabno project will be calculated according to a profit-sharing formula that guarantees a minimum income level for both partners. The optimisation agreement builds on a power purchase agreement signed by both companies in 2021, covering approximately 300 MW of solar PV capacity.

Designed for evolving market conditions

Mateusz Marczewski, Managing Director of Axpo Polska, said a key element of the agreement with R.Power was structuring a contract aligned with evolving operational and regulatory standards. Drawing on its experience, Axpo proposed a solution tailored to the investor’s specific requirements, meeting the criteria for bankability and R.Power’s internal procedures. The arrangement is intended to enable efficient market participation and the provision of balancing services in Poland’s rapidly evolving energy market over the project’s lifetime.

Rafał Hajduk, Chief Commercial Officer at R.Power, said the cooperation with Axpo provides a market-oriented and future-proof commercialisation model for the project over its lifetime. The project is the latest outcome of the long-standing partnership between R.Power and Axpo, built through multiple joint initiatives. (mg)
