Latvia – Merus Power debuts with 20 MW / 40 MWh battery project

Merus Power has signed an agreement with Latvian contractor Nordes Būve to deliver two 20 MW energy storage facilities with a combined capacity of 40 MWh. The systems will be installed in Riga for state energy company Latvenergo. Riga-based contractor Nordes Būve is acting as the general contractor for the project. Merus Power’s delivery includes key energy storage equipment.

The agreement marks Merus Power’s first energy storage order in Latvia and its entry into the Baltic market. According to CEO Kari Tuomala, it represents a strategic step for the Finnish technology company as it expands exports of its energy storage solutions and builds trust in new markets across Europe.

Dr Jevgenijs Locovs, chairman of the board of Nordes Būve, said the company values Merus Power’s expertise and European energy storage technology. He added that the storage solutions from Finland meet Latvian grid requirements and are suited to the local market environment. (mg)
