In Nehrybka, in the Podkarpackie region, Polish renewable energy company R.Power has signed an agreement with Photon Energy to optimise one of Poland’s first hybrid installations, combining solar photovoltaic generation with battery storage.
Poland proposes measures to enhance grid resilience
Flexible systems and national storage portfolio
Photon Energy will manage energy flows within the system and between the plant and the grid, act as the balancing group manager, and provide access to the spot and balancing energy markets. The project utilises automation and forecasting systems to dynamically adapt operations to demand and charge the storage system via both the PV system and the grid, thereby increasing the system’s flexibility both technically and in terms of its business model. At the national level, R.Power has also launched a portfolio of battery storage projects with a total capacity of 2,300 MWh in Jedwabno, Tursko, and Gdańsk. All three plants secured 17-year contracts in the Polish capacity market auction in December 2024, guaranteeing stable, long-term revenues of PLN 264.9 per kW per year (€62.43 per kW per year).
Project timelines and green bond funding
Construction in Jedwabno is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025, while the plants in Tursko and Gdańsk are expected to be operational between 2028 and 2029. Funding applications have been submitted for each project to the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management; decisions are expected in 2025. In parallel, R.Power completed the issuance of its first euro-denominated green bond, raising €30 million through a financing agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. The funds will be used for the large-scale expansion of the Polish storage infrastructure as part of the company’s ongoing green bond programme of over PLN 1 billion (€235.6 million). PLN 610.7 million (€143.8 million) was placed.

Expanding value chain and market confidence
R.Power is further expanding its portfolio along the entire value chain of battery storage systems and photovoltaics. The collaboration with the IFC, representing international institutional investments in the Polish energy storage sector, can certainly be seen as a vote of confidence in the Polish storage and PV market.
