SolarEdge introduces three-phase Nexis for residential storage

SolarEdge has announced the market launch of its three-phase Nexis system. The system combines a new inverter with up to 20 kW AC output, a modular battery system and whole-home backup capability. It is now available for order, with a single-phase version scheduled for release in Europe from the fourth quarter of 2026.

Inverter uses silicon carbide technology

The new inverter supports DC-AC oversizing of 200 percent. It weighs 30.6 kilograms and is more compact than previous models. An integrated antenna and built-in DC surge protection eliminate the need for external components. Under the so-called multirange concept, a single device covers all power classes up to 20 kW, designed to simplify logistics and inventory management for installers.

The inverter uses silicon carbide semiconductors (SiC) that, according to SolarEdge, enable up to 20 percent higher efficiency at low power levels compared to leading competitors in Europe. The company notes that conventional residential PV systems can lose up to 30 percent efficiency at low output levels, even though they operate at 1 kW or less for roughly 70 percent of the time.

Modular battery with up to 78.4 kilowatt-hours

The Nexis battery is based on lithium iron phosphate cells (LFP), housed in blocks of 4.9 kWh each. Up to four blocks can be stacked to form a unit of 19.6 kWh. Each inverter can support up to four stacks, resulting in a total capacity of 78.4 kWh. According to SolarEdge, this full capacity will be available from the third quarter of 2026. Currently, the offering includes a single stack. The blocks click into place without additional wiring. SolarEdge refers to this as Simple-Click architecture.

Each battery block comes with its own battery optimiser, which monitors and controls the blocks independently. At low power, only individual blocks are activated, and the optimiser balances the state of charge across all blocks. This is intended to increase system efficiency and self-consumption. The so-called Thermoshield safety technology is designed to limit thermal events to individual cells and prevent propagation.

Commissioning in less than 30 minutes

The entire system can be commissioned in under 30 minutes, thanks to a new app interface. Tom Glauner, Head of Renewable Energy at installer Elektro Ostkamp, confirmed this in an online presentation: “Installation and commissioning have never been faster or easier. Whole-home backup power is provided with just four part numbers and simple, plug-in battery blocks that require no additional wiring.” (nhp)
