Fimer has delivered 16 PVR-65-TL three-phase string inverters (S2 model) to O&M service provider Tops Energy. The inverters are now powering two identical 1 MW photovoltaic systems located on the outskirts of Brindisi, both featuring similar electrical and mechanical designs.
Tops Energy specialists oversaw the entire revamping project, which included replacing four 250 kW central inverters from another manufacturer that were beyond repair. A key technical aspect was completing the revamp by replacing only the low-voltage (LV) components while retaining the medium-voltage (MV) infrastructure, including transformers with a secondary voltage of 275 V.
The Fimer PVR-65-TL inverters were chosen for their reliable performance in this specific technical context.

Main product features
Main features of the selected S2 model include:
• 2 MPPTs (paralleled) for connection to external string combiner boxes (the range is also available with 6 independent MPPTs)
• Transformerless inverter
• 65 kW for 270 Vac
• Wi-Fi as standard for configuration
• Two Ethernet ports for plant-level communication
• Double-stage topology for a wide input range
• IP66 environmental protection
• Maximum efficiency up to 98.9 percent.
Fimer ramps up relaunch with strategic investments and new initiatives
Aldo Sciscioli, Director at Tops Energy: “The plant’s Performance Ratio (PR) has improved after previously being affected by frequent shutdowns of the old inverters. This was achieved without replacing the photovoltaic modules, despite significant challenges at the junction box level.”
According to Sciscioli, further improvements are anticipated in the coming months as previously undetected anomalies, caused by the lack of effective insulation monitoring on the DC side prior to the inverter replacement, are gradually resolved. (hcn)
