SMA shows significant growth in the first quarter of 2023

In the Home Solutions segment, turnover actually more than doubled to 163.3 million euros. The Commercial & Industrial Solutions segment also increased its turnover significantly by 41.9 per cent to 80.2 million euros. In the Major Projects segment, turnover reached 123.7 million euros, an increase of almost 22 per cent. In addition, the areas of storage technology, digital energy services and green hydrogen production contributed to the positive development.

Supply of electronic components improved

"We were able to improve our supply capability once again and see a continuing high level of interest in our products and services. The Home Solutions segment has contributed disproportionately to this very good development, but the other two segments are also developing very positively," says Managing Board spokesman Jürgen Reinert. However, SMA will not be able to continue the strong overall profitability of the first quarter in a linear fashion for the year as a whole.

"The reason for this is changes in the product mix in the course of the fiscal year, seasonal costs as well as planned investments in order to be able to make targeted use of the current growth opportunities," explains Reinert. Reasons for the positive development are both high demand: an improved supply of electronic components, which means better utilisation of production.

Turnover between 1,450 and 1,600 million euros targeted

The operating result before interest and taxes (EBIT) could be increased to 50.4 million euros. SMA continues to have a very high order backlog of 2.47 billion euros at the end of March 2023. More than two billion euros of this is attributable to the product business. The Managing Board sees the turnover and earnings forecast for fiscal year 2023 between 1,450 million and 1,600 million euros. (nhp)
