690 MWh rooftop system slashes energy bills at Polish plant

CMC Sp. z o.o., a leading Polish pallet producer, is partnering with GreenYellow to advance its energy transition at the Andrychów headquarters and main production site. The collaboration will see GreenYellow oversee the planning, financing, construction and operation of a rooftop photovoltaic array, in line with CMC’s strategy to boost self-sufficiency and shrink its environmental footprint.

3,000 m² of rooftop solar

Once complete, the roof of CMC’s production site will be fitted with 1,500 monocrystalline photovoltaic modules, delivering up to 653 kWp. The array is expected to avoid over 355 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually and may help reduce future emission-related costs. Annual electricity production from the photovoltaic array is estimated at around 690 MWh, supplying 10% of the plant’s energy needs, in particular for the energy-intensive wood drying process. According to GreenYellow, all green electricity generated will be consumed entirely on site by the pallet manufacturer, with no electricity fed into the Polish grid.

Pay-as-a-service cuts upfront costs

The project follows a PV-as-a-Service approach, with GreenYellow Poland overseeing the entire process. This includes initial needs analysis and energy audits, detailed planning and financing, construction and commissioning, as well as ongoing maintenance and continuous system monitoring. CMC Sp. z o.o. emphasises that the project requires no upfront investment or equity commitment, with payment made through invoicing for the supplied electricity. Commissioning is planned for 2026, with the option to expand the array in the future.

A broader shift

CMC’s latest rooftop PV project highlights Polish manufacturers’ increasing focus on energy self-sufficiency and sustainability. The PV-as-a-Service model further lowers entry barriers by removing upfront investment and streamlining project delivery. Such initiatives support individual business goals and contribute to Poland’s wider transition toward renewable energy and emissions targets. (mg)
