Solar energy now supporting intensive care in Kharkiv

Performing over 4,000 surgical operations annually and assisting thousands of patients, the hospital has experienced frequent power outages due to persistent shelling in Ukraine’s north-eastern region. Dmytro Cherepov, Director of the Hospital, stated: “Each solar panel we’ve installed is a physical piece of resistance. Despite Russia’s unprovoked aggression, we will keep our operating theatre running. Patients can continue receiving care. The lights will stay on.”

Facilitated by the RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation, the new solar installation includes 96 solar panels, delivering a peak output of 51.8 kW. This system will ensure a reliable electricity supply, enabling uninterrupted medical services for patients.

Strengthening energy independence

“The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation is delighted to present the successful case of cooperation with European donors to support Ukrainian resilience in the energy sphere. Our team, and every Kharkiv inhabitant who could get medical assistance even during power outages, are grateful to donor BayWa r.e. for their unwavering support,” said Yaroslava Denisova, deputy director of the Foundation.

The solar hospital project marks a vital first step in bolstering Kharkiv City's energy independence. The RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Kharkiv City Council, pledging to pursue future solar initiatives for hospitals, schools, and kindergartens.
