BayWa r.e. sells 150 MW PV park to Verbund

The Illora solar park is located in Pinos Puente near Granada. It consists of three PV plant sections with a planned total capacity of 147.6 MW Illora will produce approximately 260 GWh of green electricity per year. Construction of the photovoltaic park began in May 2021, and commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2022. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price or further details of the transaction.

BayWa r.e. is a leading global developer, service provider, PV wholesaler and energy solutions provider in the renewable energy sector. The sale of Illora underscores the company's growing success in the Spanish market, where BayWa r.e. has a pipeline of over 1.4 GW of solar and wind projects. "We are very pleased with the successful cooperation with Verbund and are very proud of the realization of the large-scale Illora project, one of our flagship projects in Southern Europe“.

Verbund expands generation from PV and wind

„Thanks to our many years of experience, our global network and a great team performance, we will be able to meet the schedule despite constraints due to COVID-19 and supply bottlenecks," explains Benedikt Ortmann, Global Director Solar Projects at BayWa r.e. He adds, "Spain remains one of our core markets and we have seen strong growth here in recent years."

Verbund is Austria's leading energy company and one of the largest producers of electricity from hydropower in Europe. The company generates around 95 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, primarily hydropower. "The Verbund Strategy 2030 envisages significant growth in the renewable energy sector, with the target of around 20-25% of total generation from photovoltaics and wind onshore by 2030. In addition to the market entry in Spain, this transaction represents another important step on the way to the renewable energy future," says Verbund CEO Michael Strugl. (hcn)
