NextEnergy Capital (NEC) has announced that NextEnergy UK I (NEUK I), its private fund investing in solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the UK, has completed the acquisition of a 107 MW portfolio of standalone operational BESS assets.
UK – Eku Energy makes transmission storage debut with Didcot BESS
The portfolio comprises three operational sites: Maldon (40 MW), Basildon (28 MW) and Loudwater (39 MW), all in southeast England near major demand centres and grid infrastructure. Each is fully operational, holds a long-term Capacity Market contract and has an established route to market.
The deal takes NEUK I's total standalone BESS capacity to 165 MW. It diversifies the fund's revenue profile with assets that are already generating cash, and moves the fund closer to its goal of pairing battery storage with utility-scale solar generation.
Opinion: Battery storage is becoming growth infrastructure
The acquisition follows NEUK I's final close at £733 million in commitments. Since launch, the fund has built and acquired a portfolio of around 1 GW of UK renewable energy infrastructure. (hcn)
