Another Biohaus solar shipment heads to Ukrainian hospitals

Each shipment is a joint effort. The Biohaus Foundation plans routes and deliveries with Greenpeace Ukraine, Germany’s development agency the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the receiving Ukrainian hospitals. Trostianets is the hardest destination, because the freight forwarder hired by GIZ cannot deliver there directly.

€150,000 appeal to bring solar power to more Ukrainian hospitals

Ukrainian courier Nova Post covers the last leg, which runs close to the front line. The truck carries 60 kW of solar modules, complete with mounting systems and cables, along with battery systems connected to 40 kW of hybrid inverters and a 62 kWh power bank.

40 years after Chernobyl – your support still matters

The cargo is set to serve five sites. At the hospital in Ivano-Frankivsk, a grid-connected solar system is being installed. The regional hospital in Sumy and a hospital in Kyiv will each receive a battery-backed system that can keep the lights on during outages. A smaller hybrid system is headed for Trostianets, and the power bank for the university library in Lviv.

Ukraine's blackouts have built Europe's fourth-largest battery market

For the Kyiv hospital, a reliable power supply is critical. It mainly treats cancer patients, among them people who, four decades on, are still living with the effects of the Chernobyl disaster. Last winter, Russian attacks repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s power grid, and hospitals are bracing for another difficult season. (HS)
